The VSCO CAM app is easy to use, produces great results and allows you to share your photos instantly through the usual channels (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc). There are 3 black and white presets and 7 colour. The app allows you to make adjustments to any of the presets, with options to add/increase things like grain, fade, fill light, exposure, white balance, contrast and saturation. There are more options but this post isn’t really meant to be a review of VSCO CAM as such, but more about the power of a camera that lots of people have in their pocket. I’m a big fan of black and white photography and have been known to spend a lot of time making sure my black and white work is top drawer. The b+w results from VSCO CAM are stunning, especially as you can make all the necessary adjustments to get your photo looking exactly how you imagined it before you pressed the ‘shutter’. All of the photos in this post have been taken on an iPhone 4s and edited using VSCO CAM (the photo of the sheep in the field has had a tilt-shift effect added using Tilt Shift Generator, another awesome little app). Although they aren’t technically perfect or of any real pixel-peeping quality, they work as snapshots of day to day life and mean I can take a photograph of anything and everything that takes my fancy. The great thing about VSCO CAM is that I can tie in the aesthetics of my iPhone photos with my proper work. Something I’ve been longing to do since the upgrade to the iPhone 4s.

I guess what I’m trying to say is that the iPhone has opened up a world of creative possibilities in your pocket. For me, the VSCO CAM is hands down the best photography app at the moment. Not everyone would agree because not everyone is a fan of the aesthetic, but for me it certainly is. At the time of writing this VSCO CAM is only 69p in the app store. For that price you’d be mad not to give it a go…
